More Convenience with LiftMaster
Seventy percent of all Americans enter their homes through their garage door. In June 2011, LiftMaster unveiled an innovative new line of Internet-connected garage door openers. This portfolio of new products set the bar for convenience by enabling customers to monitor and control their garage doors from a smartphone-based app. Supported by the Arrayent Connect Platform, Liftmaster’s garage door openers communicate wirelessly using the company’s patented MyQ protocol to connect to the Internet, allowing the door to be opened and monitored remotely.
Working with Arrayent
LiftMaster chose Arrayent as its IoT partner as a result of its comprehensive and cost-effective IoT enablement capabilities and easy-to-implement, customer-friendly solution. LiftMaster CTO Mark Karasek said, “After an exhaustive investigation, we determined that Arrayent’s technology was the perfect match for meeting our cost and reliability goals for connecting LiftMaster products to the Internet, while at the same time enabling an easy installation process.”
The LiftMaster team investigated existing Arrayent-enabled products, including Mattel’s IoT-enabled IM-Me toy, to find a model for connectivity and user experience. By pairing a low-cost microprocessor with Arrayent’s gateway design and Arrayent’s Development Kit (DevKit), the LiftMaster garage doors could be easily connected, and their controlling operations could be managed with a simple smartphone app. LiftMaster was able to deliver their connected garage doors after a year of product development and marketing, and it is now a leading product in the LiftMaster line.
